Simple online video support

How Zoom counselling works

Zoom counselling is similar to an in-person counselling conversation, except you meet with Rachael through a private video call instead of travelling to an office.

After your appointment is arranged, you receive an email with the Zoom link for your session. At the appointment time, you click the link, join the meeting and speak with Rachael from a quiet, private space.

Sessions can support conversations about anxiety, stress, relationships, grief, emotional overwhelm, life changes and general wellbeing. You can also request a follow-up session if ongoing support would be helpful.

Important safety note

Zoom counselling is not crisis support.

Rachael’s counselling sessions are confidential, non-emergency support conversations. They are not medical advice, diagnosis, psychology, psychiatry or emergency support.

If you are in immediate danger, call 000 or attend your nearest Emergency Department. For 24/7 crisis support in Australia, contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Why people choose Zoom counselling

Professional, convenient and easier to access.

Zoom sessions can make counselling feel more approachable when travel, time, distance or anxiety makes face-to-face appointments harder.

Professional

You still receive a focused counselling conversation with Rachael in a calm, respectful and confidential setting.

Convenient

Attend from home, work or another private place that feels comfortable and reduces the pressure of travel.

Flexible

Phone counselling may be discussed as a backup option if video is not suitable or your connection becomes unreliable.

Before your appointment

What you need for a Zoom session

  • A computer or tablet with a working camera and microphone.
  • A stable internet connection so audio and video can run smoothly.
  • A quiet room or private space where you are unlikely to be interrupted.
  • The Zoom app installed before your appointment, or the ability to join as a guest.
  • A quick camera, microphone and speaker test before your session starts.

What happens on the day

Joining your Zoom counselling session

  • Open the appointment email and click your Zoom session link.
  • Allow Zoom to access your camera and microphone when prompted.
  • Join from somewhere private, with the door closed if possible.
  • Keep headphones nearby if you want extra privacy or clearer sound.
  • Begin gently. You do not need to have the perfect words ready.

Privacy and comfort

A private video space where you can talk at your own pace.

Your Zoom counselling session is designed to feel calm, safe and easy to join. Rachael will treat your conversation confidentially, with the usual safety, legal and mandatory reporting limits explained in counselling terms and privacy information.

For best privacy, choose a quiet location, close the door, use headphones if helpful and avoid joining from shared public areas.

If technology plays up

What if Zoom drops out?

A stable internet connection is important. If Zoom audio or video stops working, Rachael may try to continue the session by phone where appropriate.

Please check your own device, internet, camera and microphone before the appointment, as technical issues on your end can affect the session experience.

Quick preparation checklist

Five minutes before your Zoom session

A small amount of preparation can help you feel more settled before the conversation begins.

Check your setup

Open Zoom, test your camera and microphone, and make sure your device is charged or plugged in.

Make the space private

Close the door, reduce background noise and let others know you need privacy if safe to do so.

Bring what helps

Have water, tissues, notes or headphones nearby. You can also write down what you want to talk about.
